These terms apply to bathroom, shower-room, WC and associated refurbishment works undertaken by WDI Group (Surrey) Ltd and should be read together with our Standard Quotation Terms & Conditions, Plumbing Terms & Conditions and any individual quotation.
1. SCOPE OF WORKS
The installation includes only the labour, materials, fixtures, fittings and works specifically described within the quotation. Any additional work, alterations, materials or Client-requested changes outside the agreed scope will be chargeable.
2. EXISTING & CONCEALED CONDITIONS
Bathroom refurbishment frequently involves removing existing sanitaryware, tiles, flooring, boxing, wall coverings and other finishes. Until these items are removed, WDI Group may not be able to determine the condition of concealed walls, floors, joists, timbers, pipework, drainage, wiring or other parts of the property. The quotation is based upon conditions reasonably apparent at the time it is prepared. Where strip-out exposes previously concealed defects or additional work becomes necessary, the additional work, labour and materials will be chargeable.
3. ROTTEN OR DAMAGED FLOORS & TIMBERS
Removal of baths, showers, toilets, flooring or tiles may reveal rotten, damp, weakened or damaged floorboards, chipboard, plywood, joists or other structural materials. Unless specifically included within the quotation, repair or replacement of previously concealed damaged floors, joists or structural timbers is additional work and will be chargeable. Where WDI Group reasonably considers remedial work necessary to provide a suitable and safe installation, we may be unable to continue with the affected part of the installation until necessary work has been agreed.
4. EXISTING WALLS, FLOORS & CEILINGS
Existing walls, floors and ceilings may not be straight, level, plumb, square or structurally suitable for new finishes. Reasonable preparation included within the quotation will be undertaken where specified. Where substantial levelling, boarding, plastering, strengthening or reconstruction becomes necessary because of existing conditions which could not reasonably have been identified beforehand, this will be chargeable.
5. STRIP-OUT
Removal of existing bathroom fixtures and finishes will be undertaken with reasonable care. Existing tiles, sanitaryware, furniture, mirrors, screens and other items removed during strip-out cannot be guaranteed suitable for reuse unless specifically agreed beforehand. Where the Client wishes to retain a particular item, they must inform WDI Group before removal.
6. EXISTING PIPEWORK & DRAINAGE
The quotation assumes existing plumbing and drainage intended to remain is reasonably serviceable and suitable for connection. Strip-out and alteration can expose corroded pipework, defective valves, poor previous workmanship, restricted wastes, inadequate falls, leaks or other previously concealed defects. Additional remedial plumbing or drainage work required because of these existing conditions will be chargeable. WDI Group's separate Plumbing Terms & Conditions also apply to plumbing work forming part of the bathroom installation.
7. DRAIN-DOWN OF HEATING SYSTEMS
Where bathroom works require alteration or replacement of radiators, towel rails or heating pipework, the existing heating system may need to be drained and refilled. The provisions within WDI Group's Plumbing Terms & Conditions relating to draining, refilling and repressurising existing heating systems will apply. Existing boiler, heating-system, circulation or leakage problems exposed following drain-down are not automatically defects in the bathroom installation.
8. WATER ISOLATION
The quotation assumes suitable means of isolating water supplies are available. Where existing stopcocks or isolation valves are seized, defective, inaccessible or fail to isolate adequately, additional plumbing work may be required and will be chargeable.
9. ELECTRICAL WORK
Only electrical work specifically included within the quotation forms part of the agreed price. Bathroom electrical work is subject to applicable electrical safety requirements. Where existing wiring, earthing, bonding, consumer-unit protection or other parts of the electrical installation are found unsuitable or require upgrading before proposed work can safely proceed, additional electrical work will be chargeable unless expressly included.
10. VENTILATION
Where an extractor fan or ventilation work is included, installation will be based upon the agreed design and existing site conditions. WDI Group cannot guarantee a new fan alone will resolve existing condensation, damp or mould where other contributing factors are present, including inadequate heating, building defects, insulation, occupant behaviour or insufficient background ventilation. Filters, grilles and fans require ongoing cleaning and maintenance by the Client.
11. WATERPROOFING & TANKING
Where waterproofing or tanking is included, WDI Group will install the specified system in accordance with applicable manufacturer requirements and agreed scope. Waterproofing systems can be compromised by subsequent drilling, fixings, alterations, movement or work undertaken by the Client or another contractor. WDI Group is not responsible for failure caused by waterproofing subsequently being penetrated, altered or damaged by others.
12. TILES
Tiles are manufactured products and may contain reasonable variations in shade, pattern, dimensions, texture and finish. Natural stone and patterned products may show particularly significant variation. WDI Group cannot guarantee separate manufacturing batches will match exactly. The Client should ensure sufficient tiles are ordered to complete installation and allow for reasonable cutting and wastage.
13. TILE LAYOUT
Where reasonably practicable, WDI Group will set out tiles to achieve a balanced and professional appearance. Exact grout-line positions and cut sizes may be affected by room dimensions, wall alignment, sanitaryware positions and tile dimensions. Minor adjustments to proposed layout may therefore be necessary. Where the Client requires a particular pattern, orientation, grout width or layout, this should be agreed before tiling commences.
14. SPARE TILES
Where possible, the Client should retain spare tiles following completion. WDI Group cannot guarantee the same tile, colour or manufacturing batch will remain available for future repairs or alterations.
15. GROUT
Grout requires normal cleaning and maintenance and can discolour, stain or deteriorate over time. Discolouration caused by cleaning products, water quality, mould, contamination or lack of maintenance is not a workmanship defect. Where specialist or epoxy grout is required, this must be specifically included within the quotation.
16. SILICONE & FLEXIBLE SEALANTS
Silicone and other flexible sealants are maintenance items and will deteriorate over time. The Client is responsible for cleaning, monitoring and replacing sealant when required following the applicable WDI workmanship warranty period. Sealant failure caused by movement, mould, cleaning chemicals, misuse, poor maintenance or deterioration is not considered a workmanship defect. The Client must observe any curing period advised by WDI Group before using newly sealed baths, showers or other fixtures.
17. SANITARYWARE & FURNITURE
Sanitaryware, bathroom furniture, shower trays, baths and similar products are manufactured to tolerances and may contain minor variations. Where WDI Group supplies products, applicable manufacturer warranties will apply subject to the manufacturer's terms. Manufacturer product failure is separate from WDI Group's workmanship warranty.
18. CUSTOMER-SUPPLIED PRODUCTS
Where the Client supplies sanitaryware, taps, showers, trays, screens, furniture, tiles, radiators, mirrors, accessories or other items, the Client is responsible for ensuring they are correct, compatible, complete, undamaged, suitable for intended installation and available when required. WDI Group is not responsible for defects, shortages, incorrect dimensions, manufacturing faults or delivery problems affecting Client-supplied products. Where these issues cause delays, additional work or return visits, resulting costs will be chargeable.
19. WARRANTY ON CUSTOMER-SUPPLIED PRODUCTS
Client-supplied products are not covered by a WDI Group parts or product warranty. If a Client-supplied product subsequently leaks, fails or proves defective and WDI Group is required to investigate, remove, repair, replace or refit it, WDI Group's attendance and labour will be chargeable. The Client is responsible for pursuing any applicable product warranty directly with their supplier or manufacturer.
20. SHOWER SCREENS & ENCLOSURES
Shower screens and enclosures are water-deflecting systems and are not necessarily completely watertight under all conditions. Their performance depends upon correct use, water direction, shower pressure, seals and ongoing maintenance. The Client should avoid directing high-pressure shower spray directly at door joints, seals or openings where the manufacturer does not design the enclosure for such use.
21. SHOWER SCREEN SEALS
Shower-screen seals, rollers, hinges and similar moving or flexible components are wear items and may require adjustment or replacement during the life of the enclosure. Routine deterioration of these components is not considered an installation workmanship defect.
22. BATHS & SHOWER TRAYS
Baths and shower trays will be installed and supported in accordance with applicable installation requirements. Some products may exhibit a small amount of normal movement or flex depending upon construction. Damage caused by excessive loading, impact, misuse or subsequent movement of the building structure is not covered by WDI Group's workmanship warranty.
23. NATURAL MOVEMENT & SETTLEMENT
Buildings and construction materials naturally move and settle. Minor shrinkage cracks can occur at junctions between different materials, around ceilings, walls, timber, plasterboard and other finishes. Minor cosmetic cracking resulting from normal building movement or drying is not necessarily a workmanship defect.
24. PAINTING & DECORATING
Painting and decorating are included only where specifically stated within the quotation. Where decoration is included, exact colour matching to existing aged paintwork cannot be guaranteed. Normal minor settlement or shrinkage following building works may require future cosmetic maintenance.
25. EXISTING DECORATIVE FINISHES
Where new work joins existing tiles, flooring, paint, plaster, timber, sanitaryware or other finishes, WDI Group cannot guarantee an exact match in colour, texture, dimensions or appearance.
26. FLOORING
Only flooring specifically identified within the quotation is included. Where existing subfloors require previously unforeseen levelling, strengthening, replacement or moisture-related remedial work, this will be chargeable.
27. CLIENT CHANGES & VARIATIONS
Changes requested after work has commenced can affect labour, materials, programme and other trades. Any Client-requested alteration to layout, sanitaryware, tile design, fittings, electrical positions or other agreed works may be treated as a variation and charged additionally. Where practicable, additional costs will be agreed before varied work proceeds.
28. MATERIAL AVAILABILITY
WDI Group cannot guarantee continued availability of any particular tile, sanitaryware, fitting or finish. Where a specified product becomes unavailable before ordering, an alternative will be discussed with the Client. Any material difference in cost will be agreed before substitution.
29. DELIVERY & DAMAGED PRODUCTS
Products should be inspected as reasonably practicable before installation. Where Client-supplied products arrive damaged, incomplete or incorrect, WDI Group may be unable to install them. Additional attendance, delays or labour resulting from defective or missing Client-supplied products will be chargeable.
30. WASTE REMOVAL
Waste removal is included only where specifically stated within the quotation. Where included, WDI Group will remove waste generated directly by agreed works within stated scope. Removal of unrelated household, construction or third-party waste is excluded unless specifically agreed.
31. SITE ACCESS & CLIENT POSSESSIONS
The Client must provide reasonable access to the bathroom and working areas. Personal belongings should be removed from the working area before work begins. WDI Group will take reasonable care of the property but is not responsible for damage to possessions left within areas where the Client has been asked or reasonably expected to clear them.
32. DUST & DISRUPTION
Bathroom refurbishment involves demolition, drilling, cutting and other activities which generate dust, noise and disruption. WDI Group will take reasonable precautions to limit unnecessary spread of dust and debris, but complete elimination of dust cannot be guaranteed. The Client should protect or remove particularly sensitive possessions before works commence.
33. TOILET, BATHING & WATER FACILITIES DURING WORKS
Bathroom refurbishment may temporarily leave toilets, showers, baths, basins or water supplies unavailable. Unless specifically agreed otherwise, WDI Group does not provide temporary bathroom, toilet or washing facilities. Where the property has only one toilet or bathroom, the Client should discuss access requirements with WDI Group before work commences.
34. WORKING PROGRAMME
Estimated completion dates are provided in good faith. Bathroom projects involve multiple stages and may depend upon drying times, deliveries, subcontractors, inspections and previously concealed conditions. Reasonable delays arising from unforeseen works, material shortages, Client variations or circumstances outside WDI Group's control do not constitute a breach of contract. WDI Group will keep the Client reasonably informed of significant programme changes.
35. OTHER CONTRACTORS
Where the Client appoints another contractor to undertake part of the project, WDI Group is not responsible for that contractor's work. Delays, defects or additional work resulting from third-party contractors may result in additional charges where they affect WDI Group's works.
36. PROTECTION FOLLOWING COMPLETION
The Client should follow any instructions regarding curing, drying or restricted-use periods for grout, silicone, adhesives, paint, flooring or other materials. Damage caused by premature use is not covered by WDI Group's workmanship warranty.
37. WDI GROUP WORKMANSHIP WARRANTY
Unless expressly stated otherwise on the quotation, WDI Group provides a 12-month workmanship warranty from completion of bathroom works. This warranty covers defects arising directly from workmanship undertaken by WDI Group. It does not provide a warranty against manufacturer product failure, Client-supplied product failure, pre-existing or concealed defects, normal wear and tear, routine silicone or grout maintenance, mould or staining caused by environmental or maintenance conditions, normal building movement or settlement, accidental damage, misuse, lack of maintenance, or alteration or interference by another contractor or person. Where a reported warranty issue is investigated and found not to result from WDI Group's workmanship, attendance and diagnostic work will be chargeable. Nothing within these terms affects the Client's statutory rights.
38. SNAGGING
The Client should notify WDI Group within a reasonable period of any apparent snagging items following completion. Legitimate workmanship defects falling within WDI Group's obligations will be addressed within a reasonable period. Minor snagging items which do not prevent reasonable use of the bathroom do not automatically entitle the Client to withhold the entire outstanding contract balance.
39. COMPLETION & PAYMENT
The bathroom will be considered substantially complete when main contracted works have been completed and the bathroom is reasonably capable of its intended use, notwithstanding minor cosmetic or non-essential snagging items. Payment becomes due in accordance with the quotation and agreed payment schedule. Any agreed additional works or variations will be included within relevant stage payment or final invoice unless otherwise agreed.
40. ACCEPTANCE
By accepting a bathroom quotation, paying a requested deposit or instructing WDI Group to proceed, the Client confirms acceptance of the individual quotation and scope of works, WDI Group's Standard Quotation Terms & Conditions, WDI Group's Plumbing Terms & Conditions, these Bathroom Installation Terms & Conditions, WDI Group's Repairs, Call-outs & Fault Finding Terms where applicable, and any project-specific conditions contained within the quotation. Nothing within these terms affects the Client's statutory rights.
