WDI GROUP (SURREY) LTD
ELECTRICAL WORKS TERMS & CONDITIONS
These terms apply to electrical installation, alteration, maintenance, inspection, testing and repair works undertaken or arranged by WDI Group (Surrey) Ltd and should be read together with our Standard Quotation Terms & Conditions and, where applicable, our Repairs, Call-outs & Fault Finding Terms & Conditions.
1. SCOPE OF WORKS
WDI Group will carry out or arrange only the electrical works specifically described within the quotation, booking or agreed scope. Any additional work, investigation, testing, materials, alterations or remedial works outside the agreed scope will be chargeable.
2. EXISTING ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
Unless specifically included within the quotation, WDI Group's price does not include bringing the entire existing electrical installation up to current standards. Existing installations may contain aged or deteriorated wiring, damaged cables, inadequate earthing or bonding, incorrect circuit protection, borrowed neutrals, crossed circuits, undocumented alterations, defective accessories, overloaded circuits, insulation faults, inappropriate cable sizes, loose connections, incorrect polarity or previous non-compliant workmanship. WDI Group is not responsible for pre-existing defects which could not reasonably have been identified before work commenced.
3. EXISTING FAULTS EXPOSED BY OUR WORK
Electrical alterations, testing or installation of new protective devices can expose faults already present within the existing installation. Where an existing fault becomes apparent during or following WDI Group's work, this does not, by itself, mean WDI Group caused the fault. Where additional diagnosis, repair or remedial work is required because of a pre-existing defect, that work will be chargeable.
4. TESTING OF EXISTING CIRCUITS
Where WDI Group connects new work to an existing circuit, appropriate testing may be required. A circuit which appeared to operate normally before testing may fail electrical safety tests because of an existing defect which was not previously apparent. Where an existing circuit does not achieve required test results, WDI Group may be unable to energise, reconnect or certify affected work until the defect has been investigated and rectified. Additional fault-finding and remedial work will be chargeable unless specifically included within the quotation.
5. RCD & RCBO TRIPPING
Installation or replacement of RCDs, RCBOs or other protective devices can expose existing leakage or faults within circuits or connected appliances. An older installation may have appeared to operate normally under previous protection but begin tripping when more sensitive modern protective devices are installed. Where tripping results from a pre-existing fault, leakage, appliance defect or existing circuit condition unrelated to WDI Group's workmanship, investigation and remedial work will be chargeable.
6. CONSUMER UNIT REPLACEMENT
Where WDI Group replaces or arranges replacement of a consumer unit, the quotation assumes existing circuits can be satisfactorily tested and reconnected unless otherwise stated. Testing may expose faults not reasonably identifiable before the existing consumer unit was removed. Where an existing circuit fails required testing, additional fault-finding and remedial work will be chargeable. WDI Group will not knowingly reconnect or energise a circuit we reasonably consider unsafe where doing so would breach applicable electrical safety requirements.
7. EARTHING & BONDING
The quotation assumes the property's existing earthing and bonding arrangements are suitable unless inspection or testing indicates otherwise. Where additional or upgraded earthing, bonding or other safety work becomes necessary to undertake or certify agreed works, this will be chargeable unless expressly included.
8. SUPPLY & DISTRIBUTION EQUIPMENT
Electrical supply equipment, meters, service heads, incoming cables and certain other equipment may be owned or controlled by the electricity network operator or energy supplier. WDI Group cannot alter equipment we are not authorised to work upon. Where condition of supplier-controlled equipment prevents works from proceeding, the Client may need to arrange attendance by relevant provider. Associated delays are outside WDI Group's control.
9. CONCEALED CABLES
Electrical cables may be concealed within walls, floors, ceilings, ducts, insulation and other inaccessible areas. Unless specifically included, quotations do not include invasive investigation to determine every existing cable route before work begins. Where concealed cables or services are discovered in unexpected positions and additional work becomes necessary, additional work will be chargeable.
10. ACCESS TO CABLE ROUTES
Electrical installation may require access beneath flooring, above ceilings, within lofts, behind boxing or through walls. Unless expressly included, specialist flooring removal and reinstatement, decorating, plastering, tiling, carpentry and exact matching of existing finishes are excluded. WDI Group will discuss significant intrusive access with the Client where reasonably practicable.
11. FLOORBOARDS & FLOORING
Where floorboards or similar materials require lifting to access electrical services, reasonable care will be exercised. Older boards, laminate, tiles, brittle flooring or previously fixed materials may be difficult to remove without damage. Specialist flooring removal or replacement is not included unless expressly stated.
12. DRILLING & PENETRATIONS
Electrical works may require drilling through walls, floors, ceilings and other building elements. WDI Group will exercise reasonable care when undertaking such work. Where the Client is aware of concealed services, specialist finishes, underfloor heating or unusual construction, this information must be provided before drilling commences.
13. EXISTING DAMAGE OR DETERIORATION
Existing sockets, switches, back boxes, wiring, fittings and other components may be brittle, corroded, damaged or deteriorated. Where an existing component fails when reasonably operated, disconnected or disturbed because of pre-existing deterioration, replacement and additional labour will be chargeable. This does not exclude WDI Group's responsibility to exercise reasonable care and skill.
14. ELECTRICAL FAULT FINDING
Electrical fault finding is chargeable diagnostic work. The Client is paying for the electrician's attendance, time, testing and professional expertise and not solely for successfully locating or repairing the fault during the first attendance. Electrical faults can be intermittent, concealed or caused by multiple issues. Further testing, access or return visits may be required and will be chargeable.
15. SEQUENTIAL DIAGNOSIS
Electrical faults can sometimes only be identified in stages. One fault may prevent further circuits or components from being accurately tested until it has been rectified. Where WDI Group reasonably identifies and repairs one defect and subsequent testing reveals another pre-existing fault which could not reasonably have been identified beforehand, additional diagnosis and repair will be chargeable. Discovery of a further fault does not, by itself, mean original diagnosis or repair was incorrect.
16. ELECTRICAL INSPECTION & CONDITION REPORTS
Where WDI Group undertakes or arranges an Electrical Installation Condition Report or similar inspection, the report represents condition of accessible parts of installation and results of tests undertaken at time of inspection. An inspection cannot guarantee every concealed defect will be identified. Limitations to inspection or testing will be recorded where appropriate. Remedial work identified by an inspection is not included within inspection charge unless specifically stated.
17. CERTIFICATION
Where electrical certification is required for work undertaken by WDI Group, appropriate certification will be provided subject to satisfactory completion and testing. WDI Group cannot issue a satisfactory certificate for work or circuits which fail applicable safety testing. Where existing defects prevent certification, remedial work will be chargeable unless already included within agreed price.
18. BUILDING REGULATIONS NOTIFICATION
Where electrical work undertaken by WDI Group requires notification under applicable Building Regulations, WDI Group will arrange notification where this forms part of our agreed responsibility. Work undertaken independently by Client or another contractor remains their responsibility.
19. CLIENT-SUPPLIED ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS
Where Client supplies lights, switches, sockets, fans, heaters, controls, appliances or other electrical equipment, Client is responsible for ensuring products are correct, compatible, complete, undamaged, suitable for intended installation and compliant with applicable requirements. WDI Group may refuse to install equipment we reasonably consider unsuitable or unsafe.
20. WARRANTY ON CLIENT-SUPPLIED PRODUCTS
Client-supplied electrical products are not covered by a WDI Group parts or product warranty. Where a Client-supplied product is defective, fails or requires subsequent removal, diagnosis, replacement or refitting, WDI Group's attendance and labour will be chargeable. Client is responsible for pursuing any product warranty directly with supplier or manufacturer.
21. WDI-SUPPLIED PRODUCTS
Products supplied by WDI Group may be covered by applicable manufacturer warranties. Manufacturer warranties remain subject to manufacturer's terms and exclusions. Where a manufacturer provides a replacement product or part only, associated labour may remain chargeable unless covered by WDI Group's obligations or otherwise required by law.
22. LIGHT FITTINGS & LAMPS
Where decorative light fittings are supplied by Client, WDI Group cannot guarantee their quality, light output, colour appearance, compatibility with dimmers or longevity. Replacement of lamps, bulbs and other consumable lighting items is routine maintenance unless failure results directly from WDI Group's workmanship.
23. LED LIGHTING & DIMMERS
LED lamps, drivers and fittings can have compatibility requirements with dimmers and control systems. Where Client supplies components from different manufacturers, WDI Group cannot guarantee compatibility unless specifically agreed. Additional work required to resolve compatibility issues with Client-supplied products will be chargeable.
24. SMART CONTROLS & CONNECTED DEVICES
Smart switches, thermostats, Wi-Fi controls and connected electrical products may depend upon third-party applications, internet connections, routers, mobile devices or cloud services. WDI Group cannot guarantee ongoing availability or performance of third-party services. Attendance to resolve Client network, app or third-party service issues will be chargeable unless issue results directly from WDI Group's workmanship.
25. APPLIANCES
Where WDI Group connects an existing or Client-supplied appliance, our responsibility relates to electrical connection we install or alter. WDI Group does not warrant appliance itself unless specifically supplied under terms providing such cover. Where an appliance causes an RCD/RCBO to trip or otherwise affects electrical installation, diagnosis and appliance-related work will be chargeable.
26. OUTDOOR ELECTRICAL WORK
Outdoor electrical equipment is exposed to weather, moisture and environmental conditions. Products will be selected and installed appropriately for agreed application where supplied by WDI Group. Client must not subsequently alter, damage or compromise weatherproof seals, glands, covers or enclosures.
27. WATER & MOISTURE DAMAGE
Electrical faults resulting from leaks, flooding, condensation, damp or water ingress are not covered by WDI Group's workmanship warranty unless water ingress resulted directly from WDI Group's electrical workmanship. Source of water ingress should be resolved before affected electrical equipment is returned to service where necessary.
28. MAKING GOOD
Unless specifically included within quotation, electrical works do not include painting, decorating, specialist plastering, tiling, flooring repairs, carpentry or exact matching of existing finishes. Reasonable minor making good will be undertaken only where included within agreed scope.
29. OTHER CONTRACTORS
WDI Group does not warrant electrical work undertaken by another electrician, contractor or person. Where third-party work affects, damages or alters WDI Group's installation, resulting investigation and remedial work will be chargeable.
30. ALTERATION FOLLOWING CERTIFICATION
Electrical certification relates to installation as tested at time. WDI Group cannot accept responsibility for alterations, additions or interference undertaken by others after certification.
31. TEMPORARY LOSS OF POWER
Electrical works may require circuits or entire property supply to be temporarily isolated. Client is responsible for making appropriate arrangements for equipment which must remain powered, including computers, alarms, medical equipment, refrigeration and other sensitive equipment, unless specific arrangements have been agreed with WDI Group beforehand.
32. DATA LOSS & ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT
Client should safely shut down and protect computers and other sensitive electronic equipment before electrical isolation where appropriate. WDI Group will exercise reasonable care but is not responsible for data loss or equipment issues resulting from normal agreed electrical isolation unless caused by WDI Group's failure to exercise reasonable care and skill.
33. ACCESS
Client must provide safe and reasonable access to consumer units, sockets, switches, equipment, lofts and other relevant working areas. Furniture and possessions should be moved where reasonably required. Additional attendance resulting from inadequate access may be chargeable.
34. ASBESTOS & HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
Where suspected asbestos or another hazardous material is encountered, WDI Group may stop affected work. Testing, surveys, specialist removal and associated delays are not included unless specifically stated. Work will resume when WDI Group is reasonably satisfied it is safe and lawful to proceed.
35. UNSAFE INSTALLATIONS
Where WDI Group identifies an electrical condition presenting an immediate or serious safety risk, appropriate advice will be provided and reasonable safety procedures followed. WDI Group will not knowingly leave equipment energised where doing so would be unsafe or contrary to applicable electrical safety requirements.
36. WDI GROUP WORKMANSHIP WARRANTY
Unless expressly stated otherwise, WDI Group provides a 12-month workmanship warranty from completion of electrical works undertaken by WDI Group. Warranty covers defects arising directly from WDI Group's workmanship. It does not provide a 12-month guarantee for entire existing electrical installation or existing components not replaced by WDI Group. Warranty does not cover pre-existing electrical defects, existing wiring or accessories not replaced by WDI Group, manufacturer product failures, Client-supplied equipment, nuisance tripping caused by pre-existing faults or appliances, accidental damage, water ingress unrelated to WDI Group's work, normal wear and tear, misuse, lack of maintenance or alteration/interference by another person. Where a reported warranty issue is investigated and found not to result from WDI Group's workmanship, attendance and diagnostic work will be chargeable. Nothing within these terms affects the Client's statutory rights.
37. RECALLS & OPPORTUNITY TO REMEDY
Where Client believes there is a defect resulting directly from WDI Group's electrical workmanship, Client should notify WDI Group as soon as reasonably practicable and provide us with a reasonable opportunity to inspect alleged defect. Where investigation confirms a defect covered by WDI Group's workmanship warranty, reasonable remedial work will be undertaken without additional labour charge. Where issue is unrelated to WDI Group's workmanship, attendance and diagnostic work will be chargeable. Except in a genuine emergency or where otherwise required by law, Client should not instruct another contractor to carry out remedial work at WDI Group's cost without first providing WDI Group with a reasonable opportunity to investigate and remedy the matter.
38. PAYMENT
Payment is due in accordance with quotation, booking or agreed payment terms. Where work is undertaken on a call-out or time-and-materials basis, charges are payable for attendance, testing, diagnostic time, labour and materials supplied. Charges remain payable where testing identifies an existing fault, further remedial work is required, Client chooses not to proceed with recommended repairs or additional attendance is necessary.
39. ACCEPTANCE
By accepting an electrical quotation, booking an electrical appointment or instructing WDI Group to proceed, Client confirms acceptance of agreed electrical scope and charges, WDI Group's Standard Quotation Terms & Conditions, these Electrical Works Terms & Conditions, WDI Group's Repairs, Call-outs & Fault Finding Terms & Conditions where applicable, and any project-specific conditions contained within quotation. Nothing within these terms affects the Client's statutory rights.
